Stephen Cook: Apparently this little boy is a Cambodian-born orphan who was adopted by an Italian family. They brought him along to Family Day at the Vatican. He obviously can ‘see’ and ‘feel’ the Pope’s overlighted soul… Thanks to Casey.
Pope Francis gained an unexpected attendant at the weekend after a little boy wandered onto the stage as he was addressing thousands of pilgrims in St Peter’s Square.
The youngster, clad in a yellow striped rugby shirt, ambled on to the stage while the 76-year-old pontiff was addressing a crowd of families in St Peter’s Square.
The lad then stared at the Pope for a while, before hugging his leg, raising his arms aloft to the crowd and then performing a bizarre walk.
At one point, the bold boy even sat in Francis’ chair.
Security staff tried to tempt the lad from the stage with sweets but to no avail.
However, the pontiff didn’t seem to mind, smiling and patting the youngster on the head.
