Outcasts Unite!

By Wes Annac, Editor, Karma Yoga Daily

Don’t be afraid to be an outcast, because your value as a person is not determined by whether people like you. You have something special to give to the world, and the first step to finding it is to be confident in yourself regardless of how others feel about you.

It may hurt to feel alone or excluded, but for many, this is a catalyst that leads to extraordinary achievements and true happiness. Outcast or not, being comfortable with yourself is crucial if you want a happier life. I don’t recommend being overconfident or unwilling to recognize your flaws, but as you work on improving, do it with love instead of self-hatred.

If you feel like an outcast, don’t hold it against yourself. It could be your greatest quality; the thing that fuels your success in any area of life you’re passionate about. It might require you to exchange whatever sense of completeness comes with not feeling alienated. But depending on how you handle it, this thing you thought was negative could turn out to be just what you need.

I’ll always recommend being yourself no matter how much it alienates you from a society that expects conformity. Don’t be like everyone else. Find what you love and go after it. Let the loneliness you may feel and the struggle you may endure motivate you. Never water yourself down for others. If you do, you’ll only starve yourself of your own unique qualities.
