When you’re dealt a bad hand – or five – by life, it can be difficult to remain positive and push through the obstacles. One individual who knows this to be true is Heidi Williams. Before she found yoga, Williams suffered from PTSD, anxiety, and major depression. To top it off, she had also been a victim of rape.
When she almost lost her 6-month-old child, Williams attempted suicide. Fortunately, she did not succeed in taking her life and eventually found a path to inner well-being through yoga. According to her Instagram account, yoga helped bring all the color and vibrancy she desperately needed back into her life. On the mat, she found peace, groundedness, and purpose.
Williams told Mantra Yoga + Health:
“It was in this place of mental illness hell that I found yoga and grace. Yoga brought me to a safe place again. A place of peace and self-acceptance.”
After working through various mental illnesses, the yogi was inspired to help others soothe their mental angst. In addition to managing a very successful Instagram account, she runs online support groups where people can connect with each other. Her ultimate goal is to teach therapeutic yoga classes and lead retreats that are specifically designed for those who suffer from depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Thanks to social media, she’s reached hundreds of thousands of people. Following are some inspiring photos that seek to offer hope to those on a quest to find inner peace:
