(ANTIMEDIA) Legislation was recently proposed in Oregon and Washington state that would effectively end daylight saving time within each state.
These bills are unusual but not unprecedented, the states of Arizona and Hawaii already remain on standard time all year round, without ever changing the clocks for an hour at the change of seasons.
“What I’m suggesting is that we save time by simplifying our lives,” Washington politician Elizabeth Scott said in a statement supporting the bill.
According to Scott, the sleep schedule disruption caused by daylight saving time leads to car accidents, heart attacks and on the job accidents.
Although Oregon’s daylight saving bill is up for vote this November, it could be years before the law takes effect. Details about the specifics of the bill in Washington are unclear.
Economists at the University of California Santa Barbara analyzed Indiana’s change to daylight saving time in 2006 and found that the shift actually led to a 1-percent rise in residential electricity use, which conflicts with the conventional wisdom that daylight saving time saves electricity.

Hopefully, this will catch on like wild fire, once people learn that the Chamber of Commerce is behind the big push for daylight saving time, not the Department of Energy.
