Denmark has set a sustainable example for the rest of the world, Denmark generated a record-breaking 42% of its electricity last year from wind turbines — upping the country’s previous world record, set in 2014, by 3%.

According to Energinet, the energy that was produced by wind power beat the total Danish electricity consumption for approximately 409 hrs specifically in 2015, even though one part of the every system had a production for 1,460 of the year’s 8,760 total hours or 16% of the time. This part was specifically the Western part.

Carsten Vittrup, Energy Strategy Adviser for Energinet’s Energy Analysis division, explicated:

“If, for some hours, we have surplus wind energy the producers sell it to consumers in Norway, Sweden, and Germany, and, conversely, we buy hydroelectric power from Norway, solar energy from Germany, and power station electricity from Sweden, when it is advantageous to Denmark.”

Apparently, this record has been put out despite 2 offshore wind farms undergoing 3 complete months of cable malfunctions. Without including the cable malfunction, the wind power share would have ultimately been approximately 43.5 per cent.

On July 2015, Danish wind power actually produces produced 138.7% of total consumption breaking its record of 132.1% set the year before that. Energinet further noted:

“Danish and European energy systems are undergoing massive changes, and … renewable energy will change the way electricity systems are operated.”

Of course because it is well proven, many countries have decided to turn to renewable energy sources. According to Anti-Media, Costa Rica was able to produce 99% of its power from renewable sources in late December of 2015. Apparently, it even achieved 285 days of energy production completely free of fossil-fuels.

Sustainable and renewable energy production is not only possible but it is profitable as well. Presently, The US has to continue competing with the entire globe. The US government must stop utilizing fossil fuel sources in order to even compete because then it really isn’t making a difference in the environment.

“Hopefully, Denmark can serve as an example to other countries that it is possible to have both ambitious green policies with a high proportion of wind energy and other renewables in the energy supply, and still have a high security of supply and competitive prices on electricity,” said Lars Christian Lilleholt, Denmark’s Minister of Energy, Utilities, and Climate, calling the accomplishment significant, the Guardian reported.

  1. There is only one problem with all of these wind turbines in the oceans. Birds! Shore nesting birds to be precise. These wind turbines are so close together, there has got to be a clash between birds and machine. I wonder if anyone has done any studies on this?
