Here’s the thing, it is easy to see and to judge other people’s faults and wrongdoings. Super easy. So easy in fact we might assume that we are better than they are… you know, less “guilty”, “annoying” or “wrong”. When we look at ourselves we have a difficult time finding real fault… and even when we DO we make excuses and feel justified.
We assume because it’s difficult for us to identify how we behave wrongly that we are less guilty, less annoying, less wrong than another. We assume that because we could not easily see our own faults… we must be better than them. Ha! This is not so.
We are often blind to our own negative attitudes and behaviors and minimize the effects they may have on others. We are blinded because of our faults!
Pride. Haughtiness. Arrogance. Self-centeredness. Greed. Envy. Coventry. Fear.
Our own ego’s lie to us to keep us from looking first within. This is how we are kept from becoming the person Spirit calls us to become. When we are focused on the sins of our neighbor we are distracted from looking at ourselves.
Sometimes this task of looking within requires we ask someone we trust for honest feedback, a counselor, a spiritual mentor or friend. Someone who is looking out for our better good without their own ego’s interference.
Jesus guided us towards this truth when he instructed us to first remove the log out of our own eye before we helped another.
We must be humble before we can be helpful. We stay humble by always remembering: For every fault you see in another are two faults that you can work on yourself. Love on!
