The Seven Chakras: What Are Their Purposes? – Part 6/7

Continued from Part 5

Now, on to chakra #6: the third eye. This is probably the most well-known and talked about chakra, and even though the rest of our chakras deserve just as much attention, I’ll admit it’s very important.

The third eye, as well as the crown chakra (which we’ll learn about) is primarily responsible for our reception of higher insights, and it can be used to perceive the higher realms and communicate with our spiritual guides. I’m sure there are a lot of other things we can use it for, and no matter how we use it, opening and balancing it is definitely recommended.

Eclectic Energies tells us that an open and balanced third eye will increase our intuition.

“The Third Eye chakra is about insight and visualization. When it is open, you have a good intuition. You may tend to fantasize.

“If it is under-active, you’re not very good at thinking for yourself, and you may tend to rely on authorities. You may be rigid in your thinking, relying on beliefs too much. You might even get confused easily.

“If this chakra is over-active, you may live in a world of fantasy too much. In excessive cases halucinations are possible.” (1)

There’s nothing wrong with having our ‘head in the clouds’, but we have to make sure our feet are firmly on the ground as well. We don’t want to feed our third eye too much energy, because we could overload it (and ourselves) as a result. We also don’t want to feed it too little energy, because our intuition, which is otherwise clear and pure, will become muddied.

A growing number of seekers are experiencing an expansion of their intuition, and they’re able to receive much clearer intuitive impressions as a result.

In many cases, this is because their third eye is opened and balanced, and our higher selves and guides wait for us to balance it (and the rest of our chakras) so they can intuitively communicate with us and deliver a wealth of advice and guidance.

Kellie Jo Conn tells us that the third eye is the center for higher intuition and reception of our guides.

“The sixth chakra is referred to as the third eye or brow chakra. It is located above the physical eyes on the center of the forehead. This is the center for psychic ability, higher intuition, the energies of spirit and light. It also assists in the purification of negative tendencies and in the elimination of selfish attitudes.” (2)

A lot of people could use this purification, but we can’t purify a chakra we don’t know about. In fact, if we don’t know about any of our chakras, we can’t do the work that’s required to balance and restore them.

We can only work within the perceptual confines we’ve created for ourselves, but becoming aware of the existence of our chakras is the first step to balancing them out and bringing the proper amount and purity of energy through them.

When it comes to our creativity, the chakras we feed our energy into are very important. Every chakra needs an equal, balanced amount of energy, and everything will become more difficult if we overload even one of them. If we overload the root or sacral chakras, for example, the rest of them won’t have as much or as pure energy to work with.

Not only would we be dealing with one overstimulated chakra – the rest of them would be under-stimulated. It’s an imbalance in every sense of the word, and hopefully, realizing this will help us bring the proper amount of energy through each chakra.

We can use our third eye to communicate with our higher self and guides, Kellie tells us, but we might feel less confident (or too confident) in our abilities if it’s imbalanced.

“Through the power of the sixth chakra, you can receive guidance, channel, and tune into your Higher Self. When this chakra is not balanced you may feel non-assertive, afraid of success, or go the opposite way and be egotistical. Physical symptoms may include headaches, blurred vision, blindness, and eyestrain.” (3)

We’ll know if the third eye’s imbalanced by the physical symptoms we’ll feel, and if we aren’t confident in ourselves or our divinely ordained abilities, we might find that it was because our third eye wasn’t balanced. As with anything, recognizing an imbalance is the first step to healing it, and we can use the third eye for a wealth of purposes once it receives a proper flow of energy.

You’ll notice that this report’s focus has been primarily on the results of balanced and imbalanced chakras, and this is because it’s important to understand that we can very easily overload our chakras or, in the same vein, funnel too little energy through them.

Simply becoming aware of the chakras isn’t quite enough – we have to regulate our energy flow through each of them so our existence can be as clear and pure as possible. Our clarity of mind increases when we balance our chakras and regulate our energy flow, and all it takes is the willingness to learn what we can do to keep them healthy.

Kellie tells us about the mastery that results from a balanced third eye.

“When this chakra is balanced and open you are your own master with no fear of death, are not attached to material things, may experience telepathy, astral travel, and past lives. Sixth chakra body parts include the eyes, face, brain, lymphatic and endocrine system. The main colors are purple and dark blue. The gemstones are Amethyst, Sodalite, and Lapis Lazuli.” (4)

With focus and dedication, we’ll perceive amazing things by letting our energy swim through the third eye in a perfectly coordinated and balanced way, and only when we can do this will we experience the flowing results of a balanced third eye.

We’ll have to be willing to renounce materiality or anything else that keeps us from finding a higher state of consciousness, but after so long of keeping our third eye balanced, our hunger for material things will naturally cease.

This is because we’ll have been introduced to a blissful perception that’s unlike anything our reality offers, and we’ll have long stopped caring about finite, worldly things. We’ll have rooted ourselves in spirit, and our focus will be on the blissful vibration we’ll be able to feel instead of the things that held us back in the past.
