We’ll keep this one short. One common theme among many healers and lightworkers is they are often taken advantage of because of generosity, loving nature, wanting to help. One thing that is an important lesson is that it is always ok to be assertive. In fact, loving someone means you will not knowingly let them take advantage of you. The reason is because otherwise you are passively letting them commit harm, which is just as harmful to them as it is to you. Once you identify the pattern that allows others to take advantage of you, it is time to be assertive and proactively nip those in the bud.

You also need to make sure you don’t hold inside the pain and hurt from being taken advantage of. Otherwise, it can prevent you from healing and can invite negative experiences to repeat themselves. You have to find ways to release and heal, not look for reciprocity from those people for having taken advantage of you (they aren’t ready yet) but instead look for the universe to return your energies in other ways once you have tied up the loose ends. That means that, if appropriate and possible, getting those people out of your life (for now) and out of a position to do harm to you and others.

They may come back to you twenty years from now with new light in their life, apologize, and try to make it up to you. That’s where the saying, “turn another cheek” comes in. Forgive, but always be wary and discern. Old patterns take a long time to shift. But they usually shift eventually. Nevertheless, we can sometimes be too eager to accept someone has changed and fall victims again to the same person, so always protect yourself and be smart. But never pass up the opportunity to forgive. If you need help forgiving, keep in mind we’ve all had many lives and we’ve all done ‘bad’ things in some of them. That doesn’t mean you have to invite them back into your life, but it does mean you need to make sure they know you don’t carry a grudge – otherwise healing doesn’t happen for either you or them (and they deserve healing, especially if they carry remorse).
